Prof. Oleksandr Repriov was an outstanding pathologist-pathophysiologist, Head of the Department of General Pathology (since 1922 - Department of Pathological Physiology) of the School of Medicine of the University (since 1921 - Kharkiv Medical Institute), founder of the Kharkiv Scientific School of Pathophysiologists.
He headed the department in 1895-1918 and 1920-1924.
His name is associated with the prosperity of the department and significant improvement of educational and scientific activities.
The professor's works are devoted to the problems of metabolism and endocrinology. His research on metabolism in pregnancy, fever, tumors, the effect of X-ray radiation on metabolism, the dependence of gender hormones on nutrition, the state of the woman's body in the postnatal period and during lactation, fundamental works on metabolism in pathology of the thyroid, parathyroid, pancreatic, gonads, pituitary, and adrenal glands are known.
O.V. Repriov is honored for founding the Department of Microbiology of Kharkiv Medical Institute (1922), the first head of which was his student Damian Grinev.
